Cocktailing and Views from The Shard

When my best friend said she would be visiting London for her Birthday, I knew I had to take her somewhere special. With a great view. Ideally with live music. Somewhere like……

The Oblix Restaurant.
The Oblix is on the 32nd floor of The Shard, the tallest building in London at 310 m (1016 ft) you know you’ll get the best possible views of London.

I booked a table in their Lounge – it has a cocktail bar, live jazz band, and great food and of course those views - we were lucky to be sitting right next to the window too.
Amazing how far the shadow of The Shard reaches!

Naturally, we started off with killer cocktails. I went for Raspberry Tanqueray Ten, Lavender and Champagne and my friend ordered Ginger Zacapa, lime and Coconut Beer.
While admiring the sun setting in front of us, our food arrived. Grilled Baby Chicken, Scordalia & Diablo Sauce, Crackling Pork Belly, Apple Chutney & Mustard Seeds and Tenderstem broccoli with garlic and chili flakes. Truly scrumptious.

And the best part, the sweet part of the night, long-awaited desserts.

Pecan Nut and Chocolate Bar, Crunchy Bourbon Ice Cream surely lived up to its name. Light. Chocolaty. Heavenly.
Coconut Semi Freddo, Passion Fruit and Mango with coconut flakes really did it for me. Fresh. Colorful. Exotic.

Oh Dear Lord, what a dessert!

We were both in sweet heaven, literally - high up in the sky, our noses pressed to the glass so we could take in the spectacular view below us. Life was good.

Cheers to that.

PS: You do get a two hour limit on the table but we stayed well over with no pressure to move. So we ordered a few more cocktails and chatted and laughed until the lights started to illuminate our beautiful city.
The ambiance was great, food worth every penny and the cocktails just absolute perfection. Expensive? Not for the quality you get. There are three restaurants to chose from so pick your favorite here.

Great place for a romantic night out sitting by the window admiring the view, or each other.

Next time I'd like to visit the viewing gallery, it is on the 68th floor of The Shard so twice the height from where we were!
