Štrbské Pleso, High Tatras

Štrbské Pleso its the highest located at 1,400m above sea level and most visited tourist destination in High Tatras.

Place of peace and beauty in the most stunning setting.

I cannot possibly think of anything more romantic then boat ride with a loved one surrounded by all this natural beauty. Utterly breathtaking.

Štrbské Pleso is 16km from Poprad Airport, easily accessible by train or taxi.

It is a very popular place to visit all year around. In summer, it's absolute paradise for nature lovers, enthusiastic hikers and fruit pickers ;) Winter offers great ski, snowboard and cross-country tracks, snow rafting or paragliding. This resort has fantastic ski rentals and schools, great choice of restaurants, hotels and spas, there is something for everybody.

And with price tag significantly lower then Alps, I am sure it will become one of the hottest places to cross off your bucket list in Europe.

Štrbské Pleso had a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competition every year between 1980-1987, and 1991 and Junior World Championships in 1990, 2000 and 2009.

Grand Hotel Kempinski sits right on the shore of the lake and therefore offers endless panoramic views from every room of the hotel. I blogged about it last week, you absolutely must have a read about their killer spa. Go!
There are plenty of places to eat around the lake or close by. I had lunch in Koliba Patria, traditional Slovak restaurant with very traditional interior and food at affordable prices. Drink, main course, dessert and a coffee came to 13 euros.
Potato gnocchi with cabbage and bacon aka 'Halusky', simple food at its best.
And vey delicious apple strudel with raisins and cinnamon, absolutely delish.
Idyllic place to just sit still, breath in the crispy fresh air and reflect.

I left this picturesque place on high, admiring it from Kempinki's Honeymoon suite (I was not on actual honeymoon, but I will very happily stay there once it comes to it)

I couldn't be prouder to call this country my motherland.
